Jakob Marshall, PhD Candidate
Jakob was born and raised in Vernon, BC, a small town in the interior of British Columbia best known for its serene lakes and outdoor attractions. He completed his bachelor’s degree in physics in Kelowna, an hour down the road from his hometown, at UBC Okanagan. Allured by the breadth and impact of Medical Physics, he continued at UBC Okanagan obtaining his master’s degree in 2022. His master’s research developed an algorithm to find optimal radiation beam orientations for trajectory VMAT. His research interests in treatment planning optimization led him to UBC Vancouver to work with Dr. Steven Thomas on exploring the impact of physiological motion on radiation therapy treatment planning. His current research focuses on better understanding, accounting for, and potentially exploiting cardiac and respiratory motions in radiation therapy. Research aside, you can find Jakob taking in the scenic ocean fronts of Vancouver while cycling or running. You may also find him on the golf course, playing sports with friends, or reading.
